Dysorthography literally means not being able to write (properly). The writing/spelling disorder occurs all over the world. It is often confused with dyslexia, which only involves reading. Dysorthography is about spelling/writing and is therefore totally different. It is often seen that dyslexia and dysorthography occur together. The level of writing ability in individuals with dysorthography is much lower than you would expect relative to IQ and age. So intelligence has nothing to do with it!
Children without dysorthography but with spelling problems can also come to us.
In a safe atmosphere, a conversation is initiated and aspects of spelling are examined. The child is asked to think, narrate and spell aloud as much as possible. It is important to connect with what the child learns at school and take into account the teaching method used at school during treatments. Children with dysorthography need intensive support to improve and automate their spelling skills.
